CMSI Awarded MRI Installation Project at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA
(Baltimore, MD – March 16, 2011) Consolidated Medical Services, Inc. will install a GE MR450w 1.5T MRI in the Radiation Services Department of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in order to provide additional imaging capacity for the most modern of all Navy hospitals.
The project will require the renovation of an existing reception area to make way for the new MRI. As is typical with many CMSI design-build renovations, the physically tight space proved challenging from a design standpoint. Using the existing area without expanding the facility, the new design will accommodate the mechanical requirements, optimize workflow and improve the patient experience. Construction is slated to start in June, 2011 and will be completed in August, 1011.
The Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA, is the oldest continuously running hospital in the Navy, having admitted its first patients in 1830. Sick and wounded from all wars the U.S. has been involved with have received care at the hospital.
