Background
WellSpan Health is a community health system in Adams and York County, Pennsylvania, with 2 hospitals, 10 outpatient health centers, and 40 locations throughout the region, including York Hospital. Located on the Apple Hill Medical Campus are the York Hospital Women’s and Imaging Centers, which provides digital outpatient imaging services to the community.
Objectives
WellSpan wanted to enhance the existing services of the imaging center by adding a new Philips PET/CT Scanner. They sought a turnkey design-build approach that would ensure quick and efficient project delivery without scope omissions, resource delays, or similar avoidable challenges. This project was developed in a space previously designated for future expansion. CMSI designed the project in such a way as to optimize workflow and patient care, by utilizing the available flex space as well as connecting to the current clinical areas.
Approach
CMSI proposed and executed a plan that completed construction on schedule and under budget. Special attention was devoted to infectious control and safety measures; detailed coordination and planning with the clinical staff ensured valuable input was included in the design and execution of the project. CMSI was able to create external access to the workspace to minimize the impact on clinical operations. Updates to the physical plant and infrastructure were necessary to support this technology.
Results
This project fulfilled Wellspan’s early goal of adding this new technology to their already quality level of services available to the community. CMSI was able to execute this project on time and within budget, and provide a new, well-designed and efficient patient care space in the York Hospital Women’s and Imaging Centers.
